John Hopoate

Only after attending many of my son's games during the last 2 years, I realised how many Islanders there were playing Rugby League. The parents of the other kids found out that I managed my own son, with the guidance of a semi-retired manager who had been in the game for well over 15 years. I then decided to start this management company in response to the number of questions and requests from parents to guide, negotiate and mentor their children in Rugby League.
At first I kept telling them that I didn’t have the time or experience, but from constant persistence and proposals I realised that ‘who better to manage players, than ME?
I have been there and done that! I’ve reached the pinnacle of Rugby League, playing a first grade career which lasted 13 years, State of Origin and also for Australia.
A major part of utilising our experience is with our development training sessions, which physically help show kids what it takes to give them the edge. Focussing on eliminating their weaknesses and highlighting their strengths in order to help them succeed. I know there is so much talent out there and that an edge could possibly be the difference in making it or not!
Aside from the highs of a professional sporting career are the lows, of which I have had my fair share. I can choose to let them get me down or I can take a more positive view and pass my acquired knowledge on to youngsters. Not only showing them what it takes to have a prosperous and long career, but what not to do through my own mistakes!
I pride myself on understanding the needs and the culture of Islanders and being able to assist them obtain a massive edge in achieving their lifetime dreams, ultimately reaching their sporting goals.
I also know through experience the demands of what a professional sportsperson wants and needs from their manager. A very important part of being a successful sportsperson is making the most of your finances. As we have experienced, you are not in the game for a long time, so we exult ourselves on not only obtaining your maximum earning capacity, but also that you receive the most complete financial service available to enable you to have your financial wellbeing working the most efficient way possible during competition and well after retirement.
